What Our Volunteers Do

Volunteering is a great way to help. We invite you to share the power of a wish^® whether you can give a few hours each month or a few days each year.

You can help make the wishes of special children come true in your local community when you become a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation^® of Eastern North Carolina. With a small daily staff, our mission is only possible with the dedication of our wonderful and talented volunteers.

What do volunteers do? …EVERYTHING!

Make-A-Wish^® is dependent on its team of generous and high level volunteers who not only form teams to work directly with the wish children but who work on behalf of the chapter as leaders at all levels and in all areas to fulfill the mission.

Volunteers are needed in all counties throughout our chapter.  Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older for most positions.  Those under 18 may participate only through the the Kids for Wish Kids program.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Wish Granting Volunteers:  The role of the wish granter is to make the wishes of our wish children come true through creativity and imagination.  Wish Granters visit the family and interview the wish child with the intent to determine the child’s wish and obtain required paperwork from the parents/legal guardians. This position requires excellent people skills, sensitivity and dependability. Wish Granters have the privilege of seeing first-hand a child’s most cherished dream become a reality. 
 
Fundraising Volunteers:  We are currently seeking individuals who are interested in assisting the Make-A-Wish staff and Board of Directors with our fundraising efforts. Individuals will help identify potential donors, as well as actively participate in the solicitation process.  Volunteers are encouraged to organize a fundraising event in their community to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Eastern North Carolina. Staff members can provide ideas and tools to help you in this role.
 
Kids For Wish Kids® Volunteers:  This is a program that encourages children under 18 to be become involved with Make-A-Wish by raising money to support our chapter through a variety of activities.  Kids for Wish Kids is a great opportunity for schools, youth groups, camps, etc. to support our mission through a fundraiser.
 
Office Volunteers:  The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina’s office is located in Raleigh. Office volunteers assist with daily office procedures including special projects, answering phones, mailings and other office-related activities. Interested individuals must be available during regular office hours (8:30am-5:00pm; Monday-Friday).
