Six-year old Charlie from Cary loves racing, so it was only logical that his wish was to meet Dale Earnhardt, Jr. at a NASCAR race. When Charlie asked for his wish, he commented on the fact that Jr. had just won a race the previous weekend! Charlie’s wish came true later that year in September—the little boy with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) was headed for Virginia to meet Junior and watch him in a race.
With the assistance of the Central and Western Virginia chapter, Charlie and his family were off to the races. Charlie’s weekend was packed full of excitement. He got a chance to meet and take pictures with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. while on a garage tour, visited the track and pits, and even attend two races: the Nationwide Series race and Chevy Rock and Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Despite the heat and noise that came from the racetracks and Hurricane Hannah coming through (which kept the family from visiting King’s Dominion), Charlie told everyone that he had a great time!

This wish was adopted by the Jeff Gordon Foundation.
